Story Overview
How Do We Relationship? is a dramatic yet realistic story on lesbian relationships about:
– Being together but not ready to be together
– Learning of own weaknesses, being in denial, and hurting each other unintentionally
– Finding out about love, and what it means to yourself and each other
Key Themes
Starting a relationship on uncertainty:

Miwa and Saeko first met each other at university orientation and became quick friends in an unfamiliar environment. After Saeko confessed that she ain’t interested in men, Miwa was happy to find a kindred spirit and shared her same sentiment.
Saeko promptly jumped in and ask to be each other’s girlfriend since they both like the same gender, and a girlfriend can be difficult to find.
Miwa wasn’t comfortable with how easy Saeko initiated this relationship, but was assured by Saeko’s confidence and thought to herself she can learn more about Saeko and grow to love her properly.
Afraid to seek clarity and share own worries:

Unable to tell Saeko that this is her first relationship, Miwa has problems handling situations when asked about having a boyfriend or not. After all honesty may come at a cost. Fortunately their closer friends and band mates are mostly supportive.
Saeko also finds herself dealing with jealousy of Miwa’s popularity with everyone, even though she told Miwa that it has never been a matter at all.
While they tried to have a conversation, both held back sharing their actual concerns and opt to keep things lighthearted.
This became a costly lesson for both Miwa and Saeko. They are eventually forced to have tough conversations with their own self, to manage heartbreaks, to learn to be friends, and to learn to love again.
Personal Review
Following along this story feels like watching a rite of passage for same-sex couples who got together because of how hard it is to find someone of the same community, then realising their immaturity to face their problems make it hard to ask for honesty from their partner.
I did not expect a long drawn out story for them but am very grateful to see their journeys from university days till entering the workforce. It’s a long lesson about learning to embrace themselves, and learning how to love.
Final Thought
How Do We Relationship? is a title I will recommend to folks who are looking for modern day yuri romance stories that do not shy away from difficult and messy situations. Love is never always rosy and warm. Love is a conscious choice, and can be difficult, rewarding, and disappointing.
This is ultimately a story about choosing to love and be loved right.
My Rating: 10/10 highly recommended!
