Loneliness hits hard:
As a half-beast, Heath has consciously stay away from human settlements for a long time. But that only intensified her sense of loneliness. She can’t help but hope to make a friend, despite instinctively wanting to scare away Lily.
When she realises that Lily is blind, she uses that to her advantage and is happy to have someone to chat to, without any prejudice. Later on, Lily revealed she knew that Heath isn’t human, but senses that Heath meant no harm nor show pity for her, and is happy to be on equal standing with a new friend.
Learning about emotions:
Wanting to be independent of her protective family, Lily suggested living together with Heath in the forest. That led to various cute moments such as Lily enjoying Heath’s futon because it feels like being hugged. In response Heath didn’t know what jealous meant but asked Lily to just ask for hugs directly.
While Heath owns and read many books in her collection, she is unfamiliar with actual emotions and what they meant. Lily finds it endearing and they both take their time to explore their growing feelings with each other.
Personal Review
The title is a very cute reference to a more familiar work, but of course with a yuri twist and an entirely different world and story.
While still fairytale-like, this story keeps things grounded by including Lily’s family, their acceptance for Lily’s choice and Heath’s apology, and their love for each other that spans for as long as they could.
Final Thought
Beauty and the Beast Girl is a sweet love story that I will recommend to folks who are looking for a little fantasy journey with few heartbreaks and lots of lovely moments. It is a story that has an ending, and wraps up their happily ever after nicely.
This is ultimately a story about love, self acceptance, and the resolute to treasure who you have with you for as long as they are in your heart.
